Landslides and floods hit Visayas over TD ‘Lannie’ – Manila Bulletin

Tropical Depression (TD) “Lannie” dumped heavy rains in the western and eastern Visayas that resulted in landslides and flooding, the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) reported on Tuesday. October 5.
In a situation report, the NDRRMC said a “minor” landslide had occurred in Brgy. Mapgap, Tomas Oppus, Southern Leyte in the Eastern Visayas (region 8) on Monday due to heavy downpours.
Disaster response teams have been deployed to the area to conduct clean-up operations while authorities have yet to confirm whether there have been any casualties.
Another landslide was reported by local officials in Brgy. Jaclupan, Talisay, Cebu which affected at least three houses. The NDRRMC validated the report.
Meanwhile, at least five areas of the Western Visayas (Region 6) were flooded due to heavy rains. These have been reported to Brgys. Jagnaya, Agcagay, Caridad, Pangabuan and Guintas in Jamindan, Capiz.
The affected areas were residential communities and rice paddies and, at the time of publication, the NDRRMC said the flooding had not yet subsided.
To Brgy. Cubay, Iloilo City, a tree was blown off by high winds that hit three residential houses. No one was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, 221 passengers were stranded at various seaports in Calabarzon (region 4-A), Mimaropa (region 4-B), Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas as sea trips were canceled due to bad weather. .
