Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra on ‘red’ alert, heavy rain warning for Goa, Karnataka, Gujarat
Monsoon, live weather updates today: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rain alert for Maharashtra on Wednesday and the following two days as the state capital Mumbai continued to experience heavy downpours for the third consecutive day. Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh will also experience increased rainfall over the next few days. According to the latest IMD weather forecast, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra remain on ‘red’ (act) alert until July 8. Goa, the Karnataka coast, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also under “orange” alert today. An “orange” alert was issued for July 9.
At least seven people were reported killed in separate incidents triggered by heavy rains and flash floods in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, officials told PTI. More than 25 employees working at the Malana power project in the district were also rescued from a building damaged by flash floods. In Manikaran in the district, at least four people were reported to have been swept away and the bridge over the Parvati River damaged in flash floods triggered by an explosion of clouds, they said.
Following the bursting of the cloud at Chojh village in Challal panchayat around 6am, four to six people are missing. A senior state disaster management official said at least five cattle were also swept away by the flash floods, citing information from the Kullu district emergency operations center.
