Houses on the Casuntingan side of Butuanon will be given priority in the clearance operation
STRUCTURES that are within the area of three easements along the Butuanon River at Sitio Lub-ang, Barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City will be prioritized in the clearing operation.
House Urban Development Office (HUDO) Project Coordinator Vincent Gay Aquino told SunStar Cebu on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 that they will first prioritize dismantling the riverside houses in Casuntingan before moving on to other areas.
Aquino said they are now awaiting the validation process carried out by Barangay Casuntingan staff.
He added that they were also coordinating with the barangay and other stakeholders to distribute financial assistance to affected families before proceeding with the clearance operation, which would be attended by police, barangay staff and the city’s Department of General Services.
Apart from Casuntingan which has 127 Informal Settler Families (ISF), other barangays which are also targeted for clearance operation are Paknaan with 296 houses, Tingub with 110 houses, Tabok with 97 and Maguikay with 37.
On September 9, these areas suffered massive flooding after a heavy downpour, during which 14 houses, particularly in Casuntingan, were washed away. (HIC)
